Since the majority of wedding gowns at bridal salons were made to fit women of average height, those looking for a petite wedding dress might have to look a little longer to find exactly what they want.
That doesn’t mean, however, that the petite bride will have trouble finding the perfect gown. It does mean that it might take her a bit longer to find it.
Of course, many of the gowns at bridal salons can be tailored to suit a shorter bride. Keep in mind, though, that many gowns feature details around the bottom of the skirt, or at other spots in which those details may be lost if a lot of lengths must be removed from the dress. The same is true if sleeves or the bodice needs to shorten.
Instead of trying to remove several inches from a standard sized gown, you could look for the perfect gown in a petite size. Many national retailers, such as David’s Bridal, feature a collection of such gowns. While not as extensive of a collection as their standard size gowns, that might be a place you could find the perfect petite wedding dress.
For a more vast selection, consider visiting some online retailers. Some specialize in petite gowns and will have far more from which to choose. When using an online retailer to buy a wedding gown, be sure that they have a liberal return policy that offers a refund rather than store credit. Also, be sure to order the dress well in advance of the wedding just in case you do need to return it and shop for another dress.
Another option when looking for your petite wedding dress is to have it custom created. This is actually the best option for the very petite bride who is likely to run into a few obstacles trying to buy a gown off the rack.
When you have the dress custom made, it will fit you perfectly without having to sacrifice any of the details of the gown the way you might if the dress you chose had to be severely altered.
Another question often asked by brides shopping for a petite wedding dress is what style of dress looks best on shorter brides. There is no one answer that is right for every petite bride.
There is more to consider than simply height. Body shape and type and the style of the bride must also be considered. While there are suggestions about certain styles that look good on many petite brides, such as an A-line or sheath, the best way to find what style looks best on you is to try on several shapes and silhouettes.
Just because you are shopping for a petite wedding dress does not mean that you need to settle for a gown that does not meet all of your desires.
